Kremlin: Russia's disconnection from Visa, Mastercard possible

MOSCOW, Apr 13 (PRIME) -- The Kremlin does not rule out that Russia can be cut off from the Visa and MasterCard payment systems, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.

"We can say one thing with certainty -- many states use some forms of restrictions against Russia,” Peskov said.

“These restrictions manifest themselves in many forms, this is a quite unpredictable process and taking into account these unfriendly and even adversary modes of behavior towards us we cannot rule out anything in this process."

He added that creation of own financial system is the best way to hedge the sanctions risks.

Peskov also said that Russia's Mir payment system has become strong and will be disseminated globally in the future.
